Counselling for admissions into MBBS courses in the state started at the Dr NTR University of Health Sciences on Tuesday. On the first day, 877 candidates registered their names for admission in the course in different colleges. A total of 420 candidates registered their names for the JNTU centre, Hyderabad, 108 at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, 103 candidates at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and 246 at Dr NTR University of Health Sciences. A total of 864 seats were filled on the first day, the university announced.
On Wednesday, counselling will be held for ranks from 901 to 1600 from 9 am and from 1601 to 2400 from 1.30 pm. Eamcet medicine top ranker Ms M. Himaja, second ranker Ms N. Uma Maheswari and eighth ranker Ms Pravallika Lakshmi opted for Osmania Medical College. The three rankers hailing from the coastal districts chose Hyderabad city to pursue medicine. NTR University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor, Dr I.V. Rao, issued the admission certificate to the top two rankers.
Ms Himaja hails from Narsaraopet of Guntur district and wishes to become a neurologist. Ms Uma Maheswari hails from Kanigiri mandal of Prakasam district and wants to pursue clinical oncology for post-graduation. Ms Pravallika Lakshmi hails from Narsapur of West Godavari and had decided to pursue cardiology. Eamcet rankers along with their parents reached the university for counselling. Seats are being filled in 32 medical colleges and 19 dental colleges in the counselling from July 19 to 25. The first phase counselling will conclude on July 22 while the second is to be held from July 22 to 25. In all, 3,369 seats in MBBS and 1,116 seats in dental courses will be filled.
