A final-year MBBS student, Guruva Reddy, a native of Kadapa, was arrested for the “Eamcet paper leak” episode.

In its report submitted to the state government on Wednesday, the intelligence department said that Guruva Reddy, a final-year MBBS student at Santhiram Medical College, Nadyal had hatched a master plan using the Internet to recover losses of Rs 15 lakh in the stock market.

He bought 305 ear pieces from China by placing an order worth Rs 6 lakh on a website. He also ordered 50 Nokia cellphones (model 1662), 50 chargers, 15 connection boxes and 10 batteries.

Reddy’s ingenious plan also involved 100 “specially designed” shirts that had copper wires stitched in their collars for “connectivity” with mobile phones using Bluetooth. Students needed to keep their hidden phones on “silent” mode and they would operate automatically once a call came in.

“At 9am on May 30, the day Eamcet was to be held, the police received specific information about the conspiracy to leak the medical stream question paper. They investigated the matter and arrested five people at Kadapa by 11.45 am,” the report said. “Those arrested disclosed the modus operandi and the police alerted officials at the respective exam centres. They found four students wearing the special shirts when they came to appear for the exam at 2pm,” added the report.

“About 10 people have been arrested in the case so far. I was informed that Guruva Reddy was also held by the police,” said Prof K.C. Reddy, chairman, AP State Council of Higher Education.
